The jury explained the reasons behind their decision: "This completely new design idea for sliding windows is extremely filigree, and the fact that so few visible materials are used in the frame structure creates a completely new aesthetic in architectural window design: The frame and threshold construction disappear elegantly into the floor, making windows appear open even when they're closed, and the windows also have an excellent functional and user-friendly design: inspirational!"
The gold award was handed to the Solarlux Team in person at the ceremonial iF design award night on 27 February 2015 at the BMW Welt in Munich. "It's easy to be conventional. But Solarlux is different. We think outside the box, and this is reflected in our product design, our marketing activities and our communication. This desire to be different has manifested itself in the heads of the Solarlux employees, and we want to hold onto this idea," explains Stefan Holtgreife. The 39-year-old Solarlux Managing Director has been at the family business founded by his father 32 years ago for 14 years now. Today, he is responsible for managing the successful company, which has over 600 employees worldwide. "The iF gold award represents a very special recognition of our achievements, and proves to us that we are on the right path. We are extremely pleased and will be celebrating with the entire Solarlux team," says Stefan Holtgreife.
The high design standards demonstrated by the submitted entries mean the iF design award is regarded as one of the top design prizes worldwide. The 75 recipients of the iF gold award were chosen as the year's top performers out of over 5000 submitted products.
